Weight Control

Let’s be honest, weight control seems to be an issue for most people.  Oatmeal is not only tasty but can be a great way to control the appetite.  According to a research study published in “Molecular Nutrition & Food Research,” a compound in oatmeal known as β-glucan can reduce your appetite by increasing the hormone cholecy-sto-kinin; leading to weight loss.

Beautiful Skin

Oatmeal is a popular ingredient in many skin care products.  Well, there’s a very good reason for that.  Its a powerhouse when it comes to relieving itchy, dry, irritated, and acne prone kin.

That almost magical white powder found among the oatmeal husks is oat starch, which creates a barrier that allows your skin to retain moisture.  All the while, the oatmeal husk acts as a gentle exfoliant.

Combing these qualities and oatmeal’s ability to reduce inflammation; it leaves your skin hydrated, smooth and nourished.  Overall, oatmeal is an inexpensive way to not only achieve healthy looking skin, but a great way to help relieve skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Contains Antioxidants

Antioxidants protect your cells from pesky free radicals; which are free roaming molecules created through the metabolism and exposure to environmental toxins.  The instability of free radicals can increase your risk of cancer and disease.

Oatmeal is full of antioxidants called aven-anth-ramides.  Avenanthramides can impede inflammation and increase your production of nitric oxide, which can hinder the hardening of arteries.

Can Reduce Blood Pressure

Heart disease is a major contributor to early death throughout the world.  A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a diet rich in whole-grains, like oats, can be as effective as taking anti-hypertensive medication to lower blood pressure.

Can Reduce Cholesterol

Soluble fiber helps your intestinal tract contain materials associated with blood cholesterol.  Well, oats have a high percentage of soluble fiber.  Studies have shown that those suffering from high blood cholesterol who eat only 3 g of soluble fiber per day can reduce their total cholesterol by 8 to 23%.  And one cup of oats has 4g of this fabulous fiber all on its own.

Of course, if you have any of the conditions or symptoms previously discussed, consult your doctor.
